Project Black and Blue: Complete

Mom gave me a great knitting kit as an early present. I. Lurves. It. Really. More double pointed needles along with a fancy schmancy case for them, a knitting bag, two books and a bunch 'o yarn for another project for her. The bag is specially made by Mrs. Boots Hahs; it's nice and roomy, has inner pockets, and really squishable when it's full of yarn. Oh, erm, I mean... *shifty eyes*

It's pretty great, I'm very happy with it. Thanks, mom!

In other Arwen knitting-related news, Mia's scarf is done! Before Christmas! AND she likes it, woo! Here is a close up of Mia's stitches. I used Heirloom Easy Care in Aztec and Heirloom Breeze in Black for the colors; the gauge between the two was off by .5, but Aunt Jan and I figured that it was small enough to not make an impact. The pattern of the scarf itself was a combination of two patterns that I found online: this one for the color changing (super easy and clean) and this one for the columns. Even though it was extremely easy, I am very proud of myself. All of the stitches were uniform and neat and it isn't something that I've already done.

It's really strange to not have an immediate project to do. I mean, Mom's is high up on the list, but not something that needs to be done in a few days' time. No rushing involved. It's all smooth sailing now. Maybe. Mostly. I think? Meh, I'll figure it out soon enough, I'm sure.

Scarves, Scarves for Everyone!

I have completed (officially) three more scarves! One for Andrea in Pittsburgh Steelers black and gold (my first dual color project) and two for the officers that direct traffic at home. Mom had commissioned me to do the latter project for the officers so I've been in a rush to work on those even though all Andrea's scarf needed was the tassels. Anyhoo, it's all complete and I like the way they turned out! Maybe later I can get a picture of the hat I made to match Andrea's scarf, hmm.

The green scarf was knit using a super bulky yarn and this pattern. The blue one was knit using this pattern, but the same brand/weight of yarn, so it came out looking a bit different. I still think the end result is fabulous though, if I do say so myself. I hope that the police officers back in The Ville enjoy them as I really liked working on these patterns.

And here is Andrea's scarf! Knit by holding two strands Lion Brand Homespun yarn that we found in a Michaels store. It came out super soft and long (by request); we're both very pleased. The pattern is one that Aunt Jan taught me; let's see if I can remember it...

CO stitches in multiples of four, however wide you want it
*k1, k2tog, yo* repeat from *
Rinse and repeat until the scarf is as long as you'd like it. Voila! Steelers scarf in the middle of Texas!

Beginning Projects

So my first attempts at solo knitting scarves and hats mainly consisted of me testing my stitches; knits, purls, etc. The end result was much better than I had anticipated and the items are now going to be Christmas presents for my loving family.

The two scarves, however, taught me that I was doing the bind off completely wrong, so that has been fixed. The hat came out very nicely, though I really dislike knitting with only one strand of that type of yarn. I won't worry about posting patterns or anything since it's just your basic knit and purl stitches. Since finishing these three items, I have made four -- wait, no, six more hats (failed to take pictures of them unfortunately, they came out really well) and I've gotten a commission from Mom to knit two scarves. I'll post pictures and patterns of those two when I'm done with them both, I'm very pleased with the results of my endeavors thus far.

Testing, testing. Is this thing on?
